Asian Family Center

The Asian Family Center (AFC) was founded in July 1994, and is located at 4424 NE Glisan St, Portland, OR 97213. AFC is one of seven family centers, and part of the overall activities of the Family Support Initiative in Multnomah County. The center is one of only a few such centers in the county developed specifically to assist Asian families and youth in becoming self-sufficient and contributing members to the American society. Since its grand opening, AFC has become a visible focal point and strong network in the Asian community as well as mainstream services in supporting Asian children, young people and their families.

Asian Health and Service Center (AHSC)

The Asian Health and Service Center has many services to offer to the Asian Community. To start, they offer many health services treating Diabetes, heart disease and also women’s health. But that is not all they do, they also offer classes for Chinese calligraphy, painting and also Yu Miao Chinese immersion preschool.

Dr. Erik Szeto founded AHSC in 1983 to bring social services to Oregon’s steadily growing Chinese immigrant population. The center, then called the Chinese Social Service Center, operated out of the basement of Chinese Presbyterian Church in Southeast Portland. As time passed and the client base increased, the center saw a need to grow and become a stronger entity that advocates for the Chinese immigrant community. -AHSC
